Just a few months ago Trevor Story was an average minor league player with okay talent and a big heart. He moved up from the minor leagues to the Colorado Rockies this year.

Trevor Story has had a storybook start to the MLB season. A rookie shortstop for the Rockies out of Irving, Texas, Story has had 7 home runs and 13 RBIs over the course of the first 11 games. He has a .295 batting average with 13 hits. This great start to the season might not mean that much though. OPS is a stat calculated by adding your on base percentage to your slugging percentage. Trevor Story has a 1.183 OPS in his first 11 games which is above average, if not outstanding.

The record holders of players with the top OPS in their first 24 plate appearances of the season are (1-5, in order) Glenn Adams, Jorge Soler, Armando Rios, Jose Oliva, and Eugenio Suarez. These names are not names you hear a lot in baseball. They are lesser-known players. They were famous for a month or so, while they were playing well, but then faded away in history.

Some experts think that Trevor Story will be a player whose name will be remembered, like Babe Ruth or Cy Young. Others think that he will fade away like most of the other players on the list. No matter what happens in the future, Trevor Story will be recognized in the present as a player with an amazing start to his rookie season.
