Liberty and Justice for All: End the Pledge of Allegiance

This is the full text of the pledge of allegiance:

I Pledge allegiance, to the flag, of the United States of America.

And to the republic, for which it stands, one nation under God.

Indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Let’s go through this, shall we? The pledge is legally optional. The Huffington Post agrees, “This is in accordance with the famous 1942 U.S. Supreme Court decision, West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette, that ruled that students could not be compelled to recite the pledge.” However, there is no enforcement mechanism, so it’s reasonable to assume, and from personal experience, that teachers force students to say the pledge. That said, let’s examine exactly why we should stop saying the pledge of allegiance.

I pledge allegiance, to the flag, of the United States of America

This is, while not great, okay. Nothing egregiously wrong with this.

And to the republic, for which it stands, one nation, under God

People are guaranteed their right to freedom of religion, and many don't believe in God, this violates their religious freedom. People shouldn’t be forced to pledge allegiance to a God they don’t believe in.

Indivisible with liberty and justice for all

Liberty and Justice are absent, if a government forces its students to violate their rights.

The pledge of allegiance forces people to violate their religious freedom and pledge allegiance to a country, violating their constitutional rights. Why should I be forced to pledge allegiance to God, (and for that matter, a congress) that I don’t believe in?
