You can use the above template above to help organize your workday
As exams approach, the students’ blood pressures run high. Finals week is the number one time of the year for stress, and believe it or not, there is a way through it. Need for rest and some down time can complicate matters. Parents want their kids to study so they do better on the exams, and the students believe that they need more sleep and some relaxation in order to keep going. In reality, both are right. We can’t forget the importance of sleep, but we also need to look at the benefits of studying long and hard. So, here are 3 tips in order to get the most out of your study session (and get some shut-eye too).
1. Stay Calm and get organized
Don’t Panic! Plan out all your exams and when they will occur. Start organizing your notes/classwork and go over past assignments to extract out the most important information that you will be tested on! Most importantly, contact teachers if you have any questions, comments, or concerns about the exam.
2. Don’t Compromise!
Don’t compromise important things like sleep or meals. The National Institute of Health (NIH) says that teenagers should get 8 to 10 hours of sleep. A lack of sleep will only throw off your game and make it hard to work the next day. Missing important meals will have a major affect on your performance on an exam as well.
3. Take short breaks when studying
Study in 40-90 minute segments, and then take 10-20 minute breaks in between these segments. Moving around or taking a short jog is the best way distract yourself from studying, but listening to music, reading, or taking a quick nap also works. It is important to take a break because you can retain the information longer when a take a moment to walk away from what you are doing.
Other Tips-
-Don’t cram in information the day before the exam
-Don’t eat a lot of sugary foods, it is bad for your concentration
-Study in a quiet environment
-Set a time in the day that you are going to study
-Make a practice exam for yourself
-Teach a sibling or friend the information
-Study with friends after school or at TAG
